Just pretty photos

My Mantella page. I was once the proud caretaker of five golden mantella's (mantella aurantiaca). On this page are the pics of the golden mantella's and some links below this.

Here you can see my paludarium that holds the mantellas. It has a floor of water with fish and so on. There is a pump that pumps the water onto the rocks, creating a natural filter. You can see the green plastic tube attached to the pump in picture 2. I refresh half the water every week or so. The tank is about 1 meter long, 80 centimeter deep and 80 high. Because of the heat of the wooden top it is also a place where our cat likes to lie down as you can see. In the tank I have a daylight tl, for the plants and the frogs (vitamin e), and lights for the right temperature (about 20 degrees celsius or below).

Some facts. Golden Frog, Mantella aurantiaca. Madagascar has 150 described species of frogs, with reports of many more being discovered, but it has no other amphibians. All the frogs are endemic except for one shared with Africa and one known to have been introduced. Golden Frogs are found only near the Perinet Reserve and their number may have been depleted for the pet trade (more than 11,000 were exported in 1989).
